King Alfred School – Work Experience Week

King Alfred School have had their annual year 10 work experience week and it has been our pleasure to welcome 3 students from the school on a work placement with us. These took place in our Leisure Department, so working at the our Waterpark and Brean play, and also in Catering Department so getting a good overall understanding of the operation, helping at our venues The Tavern, Brean Play kitchen and the Country Club.

Teresa Slack Recruitment & Training Officer met with the students to see how their placement went.

Have you enjoyed your weeks work experience in the Leisure and Catering Teams? And what have you enjoyed the most?

Harley – My week has been really good and I have enjoyed it thank you. I enjoyed seeing how the lifeguards work together and it’s been good getting a feel for it when I am older.

Josh – Yes, I’m not sure of my best part but I have enjoyed it.

Rudi – yes I did, I enjoyed learning new things and meeting new people. The Country Club was the catering I enjoyed the most as it is the style catering I would like to do.

Do you think it has helped you to understand what it is like to go to work and have a Job?

Josh – It showed how everyone works together.

Harley – It showed me how time managements works.

Rudi – It has helped me realise the realistic expectations of customers, and shows how stressful situations can be.

Do you think you would now like to work in Leisure or Catering? And why?

Josh – Probably when I am 16 I would like to work in Leisure

Harley – It has made me think about it as I’ve really enjoyed it.

Rudi – yes, it is potentially something I would be interested in.

Have you thought about doing summer work or an apprenticeship when you finish school?

Josh – yes I would be interested in summer work. But not really though about doing an apprenticeship.

Harley – Yes it is something I would consider for Summer work, maybe train to be a Lifeguard. I haven’t really looked into apprenticeships when I leave school.

Rudi – Yes I would potentially consider a job in catering for summer work when I leave school, and yes I would consider an apprenticeship.
